General Electrical Refresher

Design, install and verify compliance and functionality of general electrical Refresher (Non-Accredited)

Design, install and verify compliance and functionality of general electrical Refresher (Non-Accredited)

ABOUT THE COURSE

WHO SHOULD TAKE THIS COURSE

An electrical refresher course is perfect for licensed electricians who’ve been away from the tools for a while and want to rebuild their confidence and get back up to speed.

It’s also a smart move for tradies who want to stay on top of the latest updates to AS/NZS 3000 and meet current state requirements, including those set by the Electrical Safety Regulator Queensland.

If you qualified overseas, a refresher could help you understand how Australian systems work, from MEN arrangements to local testing procedures.

Contractors and business owners can use it to minimise risk, tighten up documentation, and protect their licence.

Apprentices heading toward Capstone can sharpen their fault-finding and testing skills, while electricians moving into solar, battery, or inverter work can make sure they’re working safely and compliantly.

It is particularly suitable for electricians/apprentices who:

  • Want to understand the key principles of electrical installation design, including load calculations, cable selection, protection requirements, voltage drop, earthing, and compliance with AS/NZS 3000.
  • Want to improve their confidence when testing electrical installations and identifying common faults.
  • Need to refresh their knowledge of safe testing procedures, test instruments and fault-finding techniques.
  • Want practical experience applying testing and diagnostic methods to electrical circuits and installations.
COURSE OVERVIEW

Electrical Design, Testing & Fault-Finding Refresher provides an opportunity for experienced electrical workers & apprentices to revisit essential design, testing, verification and fault-finding techniques used in electrical installations.

The course combines theory with practical activities, allowing participants to refresh their understanding of test procedures and then apply those techniques to realistic electrical circuits and fault scenarios.

Participants will revisit areas such as:

  • Safe preparation and isolation before testing
  • Selection and correct use of electrical test instruments
  • Continuity and resistance testing
  • Insulation resistance testing
  • Polarity and polarity-related faults
  • Verification of electrical circuits
  • RCD testing
  • Identifying common electrical installation faults
  • Systematic fault-finding techniques
  • Interpreting test results and identifying abnormal readings
  • Applying relevant electrical installation requirements
  • Safe restoration of circuits following testing and fault-finding

The course is intended as a skills and knowledge refresher rather than initial training for someone with no electrical experience. It provides participants with the opportunity to practise testing and fault-finding techniques in a controlled training environment and build confidence before applying these skills in the workplace.

Completed my NAT Gap training with Ausinet last week and I couldn’t recommend them highly enough. Shan was a great lecturer and he really made me feel at ease and explained things thoroughly. Sean was also very knowledgable of the whole process. Overall a great experience 🙂

I recently completed my instrumentation training with Ausinet, and it was a fantastic experience. The practical hands-on training sessions and real-world scenarios were excellent and really helped bridge the gap between theory and application. Big thanks to the instructors and support team for their clear guidance and well-organized program. Highly recommended for anyone looking to upskill in the trade!

I recently completed the Battery Design and Installation course. The theory component was completed online, followed by the practical training at their office in Darra. I found the course well structured and informative. The online theory allowed me to work through the material at my own pace, while the practical component was particularly valuable as it provided hands-on experience and helped reinforce what had been covered in the theory. The trainers were knowledgeable, approachable and happy to answer questions. Being able to work with the equipment during the practical training made it much easier to understand the design, installation and commissioning requirements for battery systems. Overall, I found the course very worthwhile and would recommend it to anyone looking to improve their knowledge and practical skills in battery design and installation.

Just completed my national GAP Training with Ausinet and highly recommend anyone needing to do so to book in a call with them. From the beginning the course is explained in detail and professionally by the team with all cost outlined from the get go with staged payments to make things easier. The online training is very informative and easy to follow and assessed on Fridays or Sundays with online exams. The Exemplar profiling, although daunting is made easy to follow by Ausinet and the admin team are at hand to assist if needed. The practical was a great week with lots to take in but Sean, Shan and the team helped us though it, wasn’t as bad as I was expecting but learnt a lot and feel a lot more comfortable with the Australian standards and how to navigate them. Looking forward to getting my Licence and career as a sparky in Aus. Thanks Ausinet and would recommend them to anyone looking to complete their GAP training when arriving in Aus.

Thank you to Sean, Shan and the rest of the team at Ausinet who have made my electrical gap training and capstone such a smooth process. The trainers answered all technical questions for the online learning very promptly, the admin team were great at answering any questions I had about my exemplar cards and the whole team made the capstone week very enjoyable and took all the stress out of it in the first hour. Made the trip from Perth to Brisbane based on a recommendation from a coworker and I’m glad I did! Highly recommend using Ausinet for anybody needing to transfer their international qualifications. Thanks guys👍🏼

I sat the Electrical Nat GAP training course and from day one it felt like Sean and the team were right behind me. From the first phone call I had with Sean I felt as if I would get through the course and receive my certification. Shan, who was my trainer was very knowledgeable and answered any questions myself or the group I was in fired at him. I highly recommend using these guys if you wish to obtain your licences.

Exceptional experience doing the Grid-Connected PV Design and Install course at Ausinet. The blended delivery model worked perfectly around my work schedule. The theory modules are incredibly thorough, and the face-to-face practical days gave us plenty of space, time, and high-quality gear to test our skills on. The trainers really know their stuff inside out and go above and beyond to support you. It's a great environment to learn in, and it prepares you fully for the accreditation process. Will definitely be back for the battery storage units!

It was fascinating to have had such a course that provided both theoretical and practical skills. Hands on experience was very productive. Well designed and structured. The staff was very professional and highly cooperative. Beneficial for potential learners.

The best part for me was being able to learn from home when I can fit it between family life and running a business. With very little free time, this worked with me to get me the learning i need to be able to grow

Really happy with the Solar PV course. The trainers were knowledgeable, approachable and explained everything clearly, especially the more technical parts of the course. The training was practical and relevant to actually working in the industry, rather than just focusing on getting through the assessments. Any questions I had were answered properly and the overall course was well organised. I came away feeling much more confident with solar PV design and installation. Would definitely recommend them to any electrician looking to complete their solar accreditation training.
