ABOUT THE COURSE

WHO SHOULD TAKE THIS COURSE

This Solar Battery Installation course is made for electricians who want to learn how to install battery storage systems for solar Grid-Connected Photovoltaic Systems. This course does not include designing battery storage systems for grid connected solar PV systems.

After successful completion of this course you will be able to apply for accreditation with the Clean Energy Council of Australia.

This course is made for people who require a fast-paced and flexible learning environment while getting top quality training.

This Solar Battery Installation course involves the skills and knowledge required to safely and effectively install, maintain and fault find battery storage systems for grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) systems.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

In order to enrol in this Solar Battery storage course you must have:

  • Computer Literacy
  • Access to personal laptop/desktop with a webcam (Company laptops with firewalls may not work)
  • Reliable internet connection
  • Headset for video conferencing and video lectures (Headset = Mic + Speakers)
  • You will need a Gmail account to gain access to Google Drive to participate in this course
  • A Valid Photo ID (e.g. Drivers licence)
  • Australian Passport /Birth Certificate / Medicare Card
  • Protective footwear with safety toe cap and non-slip soles to AS2210
  • 100% cotton drill industry-standard clothing required for all practicals
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as used gloves and safety glasses can be borrowed
  • Students must demonstrate an appropriate level of language, literacy and numeracy skills and knowledge to undertake a course at this level.
  • One must be physically fit to enrol into this course as it involves use of tools, ladders, step ladders, use of harness and maneuvering yourself through ceiling cavities
  • Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician
  • A Valid Unrestricted  Australian Electrical Licence
  • USI Transcript

Competency in the following units :

UEERE0054 – Conduct site survey for grid-connected photovoltaic and battery storage systems
UEERE0080 – Install photovoltaic power conversion equipment to grid
UEERE0081 – Install photovoltaic systems to power conversion equipment

*What if I lost my actual Grid Connect Certificate? Is my CEC accreditation certificate enough to enrol in the course?

As per the ASQA requirements, we need to verify that you have completed the prerequisite units in order to issue a statement of attainment.

Here are a few solutions if you can’t find your statement of attainment:

If you have completed your course from 2015 you can provide us access to your USI record so we can check the units attained
If you have completed your Grid connect course before 2015 you can contact the RTO where you have completed your course
If you are still unable to get your statement of attainment for the prerequisite units but you have a CEC accreditation for Grid-Connected PV Systems, you can still do the course but we will issue you a statement of completion which is a non-accredited certificate. CEC accreditation could be attained on the basis of a Statement of completion, you will have to contact CEC and confirm before enrolling into the program.

You don’t need to purchase these standards upfront but its recommended to have access to the following:

AS/NZS 4509
AS/NZS 3000:2018
AS/NZS 4777.1:2016
AS/NZS 4777.2:2020
AS/NZS 1170.2

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

You will need to get access to the following standards :

AS/NZS 5139 – Electrical installations – Safety of battery systems for use with power conversion equipment
AS/NZS 4777.1 – Grid connection of energy systems via inverters – Part 1: Installation requirements
AS/NZS 5033 – Installation and safety requirements for photovoltaic (PV) arrays
You can borrow them from our library in Darwin while you are in class or buy them for yourself from the SAI Global website or Techstreet website. For reference, the standards might also be available from some libraries, institutions and industry associations.

You will need to bring :

A wired headset or headphones
A laptop
A notepad
A pen
You will also need to have an email address, a computer and a reliable internet connection in order to complete the online theory part of the course.

Enclosed footwear must be worn at all times when you are on the premises.

COURSE OUTCOME

You will receive a Nationally Recognised Certificate upon successful course completion.

After you have successfully completed this course, you will be able to apply for your solar accreditation at the Clean Energy Council of Australia (CEC). You must hold grid-connect solar accreditation before you can apply for battery storage accreditation.

CREDIT TRANSFER

Ausinet, as a Registered Training Organisation (RTO), recognises the Australian Qualifications Framework qualifications and Statements of Attainment issued by any other Australian RTO. You are encouraged to submit requests for credit from previous studies when enrolling to ensure that you are not enrolling in units you may not need to undertake. If you have completed units at other RTO and you think they may count towards the award requirements of the course you are enrolled in at Ausinet, submit an official copy of your results for the units you have undertaken. Credit transfer may fast-track your course.

RPL

Recognition of prior learning also referred to as RPL, is the formal acknowledgement of a person’s current skills and knowledge experience gained throughout life – regardless of how they have been acquired.

This is an important assessment pathway, particularly for people who are considering doing a study. The recognition gained may considerably reduce the study time needed to get a qualification.

The RPL assessment may include workplace observation, interviews and professional conversations, work samples and documented evidence. Please contact the office for an RPL kit.
